Leather PrimerEmbossed Leather: Embossed leather is the name given to leather that has been placed between matching steel rollers or plates that has a design cut into them. The leather comes out with the design pressed into it. This process is often used to make leather that has the appearance of exotic skins such as croc, alligator, ostrich, lizard, elephant, etc. This process is refined that some people cannot tell the difference between embossed and genuine exotic hides. Embossed leather is easier to work with than genuine exotics and is a less expensive alternative to genuine exotic skins. When properly used it is very difficult for most people to be able to distinguish between embossed and the real thing! Genuine Exotic Skins (Leather): Genuine exotic skins are hides that come from the exotic animals they are named for. Stenciled Leather: Stenciled leather is produced by a silk screen process to give it the appearance of zebra, leopard, jaguar, tiger, giraffe, etc. skin. Some stenciled skins come with the hair remaining on the hide. |
